I've spent the first day of the new year working on edits of The Stone Road. There'll be more to come, but this is for the Brio edition. I'm really happy with how this book has turned out, but I still want to it to be better.
Even with relatively light edits I find myself shaking my head at inconsistencies, my rather dreadful punctuation (bane of all my editors), and the odd weird typo.
But it has been fun. Entering that world**, getting to spend time with Jean and Nan again, and Lolly, Alice, Ella, and Bird, most of all Bird. I'd forgotten how much I loved their company.
I can't wait to share them with you*.
I've been writing in the world of Stone Road and Day Boy a lot over the last year***. So expect to see a bit of it in 2022.
Anyway, that was how 2022 started, and I feel so lucky to have had such a good beginning. Wishing you all a splendid start as well, looks like it could be a bumpy one, so let's find kindness and joy where we can.
*If you've read Day Boy, expect a few familiar faces as well.
**Seriously, I snuck a dragon in here.
***And finishing a new novel that is so different to anything else I've written, but so utterly me I can't believe it's taken this long.
